Delay Your Payments
If you are younger than 60 or don't need your payments immediately, you can set up a deferred gift annuity. This allows you to delay receiving payments until a later date—such as when you reach retirement. To learn more, view and download the free guide Plan for Retirement With a Deferred Gift Annuity.
An Example of How It Works
When Sarah's father passed away, she knew she wanted to do something that would establish a lasting legacy for him. She remembered that during his lifetime he was always praising Rose Community Foundation for its tireless efforts to better his community. So Sarah decided to make a gift to Rose Community Foundation in her father's name using appreciated securities. Not only will her father's legacy live on at Rose Community Foundation thanks to the gift and a commemorative plaque, but Sarah also received a federal income tax charitable deduction (because she itemizes her taxes) and eliminated capital gains tax on the securities.
